MY FIRST DRAWING STEPS

Many people have asked me if I have ever been taking drawing lessons. I didn't, but I started painting at an early age with my grandmother, who paints in her spare time.

I was studying art at high school though, and that's where I discovered drawing. At that time, I loved to reproduce pieces of existant drawings and magazine ads, being as precise as possible.

Through a work of patience and visualization, I could achieve, after many, many corrections, a pretty rewarding output of the original image; And I think everyone is able to draw according to his/her own style of drawing.

One of the artworks I did at school (around 2007)

My advice to you would be : don't be afraid not to be able to draw the final result you want, because that's usually how you give up early, saying you won't be able to do it (or: I'm can't, I'm not good at drawing, etc.).

You probably won't get it from the first try if you're a beginner. The game is to begin with a first approximative sketch, while attentively observing your original pattern (the overall structure first, then the details while you go further in your work) and trying to get closer and closer to it.

I usually begin with something that doesn't really look like the image I'll willing to reproduce. But then, I erase and re-do the part I think is wrong, and it takes me hours and hours doing that to achieve what I call a great work of art and patience.

I'm willing to give advice to those who are willing to learn how to draw the unconventional way. Keep it up, and be persistant: everyone can do it!

So, here are some pieces of lost and found or incomplete works I did. I should get back to it very soon (when it comes to get some free time...).

The two first sketches are one of the oldest I drew :

And then, through practice, persistence and patience, I was able to draw that :

Scarlet Nail Bar

But girls also love to meet and share the latest gossip ,trends and shopping, it's well known.

Mix these ingredients and you get the Scarlet Nail Bar, a pretty place in Mutuelleville in which all Tunisian girls and women are invited to come and be pampered with their friends around sweets.

Yesterday, I was invited to the opening of this very girly place (colors and materials appear to come from Barbie's magic house) where jars of sour sweets were gleaming with freshness between an endless variety of OPI's nail polish.

This nail bar is pretty unique. Indeed, besides coming for health and beauty treatments at the forefront of fashion and innovation, we can also buy original clothes that you can't be found anywhere else. The place's owners, often traveling abroad, always bring dresses, shirts and shoes they liked to offer it to their customers for very reasonable prices.

Truely a little girls' paradise !

Step by Step

When I Started writing this blog, I'd never have thought it could have this impact, however modest it is. At first, I was obliged encouraged to open a blog where I could post some of my sketches. Being that passionate about fashion, luxury marketing and arts and not talking about the subject had no sense, so I decided I should have my own impact on this little part of society around me.

Then, little by little, my drawings have get noticed. People have contacted me for some practical advice, to congratulate me or to suggest me professional opportunities in the areas of art and fashion.

Though it's still a bit difficult to manage all my activities including studies, associative activities and my passion for drawing, I really want to pursue the Words And Shapes experience for a while.

Oh, and lately I've sung in front of a live audience for a charity dinner, I met Big Ali and Charles Aznavour at the same party, I consider the idea of working for the Tunis Fashion Week, I'll soon work with artists within a contemporary art festival and I'll maybe continue my studies in the artistic field. Let's dream a little.

By the way, this sketch, inspired by my favorites fashion blogger's illustrations, reflects my actual mood : ambition, shyness and the fact of realizing how lucky we can be.

I'll send you soon the details of my artistic escapades, meanwhile I'm step by step resuming my blog activity...

Garance, you're so shallow !

It all started one morning in July 2007. Surfing on the net in search of interesting fashion blogs, I came across a captivating article : a story of a trip to Sydney by a sort of stylish globetrotter who was covering a local Fashion Week eventful, but was also sharing her own shots of street looks. This leading blogger is obviously Garance Doré.

Breathtaking pictures, sketches to die for and a sense of humor to any event, I have read almost all articles published since the blog in 2005 that day. Inspired you say? I was quite fascinated by what was doing that exploratory of modern times because at the time, I didn't know yet what was the Street Shooting.

In a Relationship with the inevitable Schumman Scott, aka The Sartorialist, which I discovered the blog with ecstasy at the same time, Garance is constantly remembered for his shots and illustrations. So far, I'm constantly interested in other pillars of the fashion blogging around the world, finally throwing myself to create my own blog mode. Butterfly Effect?
